Redmi K40S was launched on March 17 at an event in China alongside Xiaomi's latest Redmi K50 series smartphones — Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro. The handset is a refreshed version of the original Redmi K40 smartphone that was launched in February this year, and features similar specifications, including a Snapdragon 870 SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM. It sports a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. 

The Xiaomi Redmi K40S features a 6.67-inch touchscreen display offering a resolution of 1080x2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM. The handset runs on Android 12 OS and is powered by a 4500mAh non-removable battery. The device supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.

In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Redmi K40S on the rear packs a triple camera setup featuring a 48-megapixel (f/1.8) primary camera; an 8-megapixel camera, and a 2-megapixel camera. The rear camera setup has autofocus. The smartphone has a single front camera setup for selfies and video calls, featuring a 20-megapixel sensor.

On the front software, the Xiaomi Redmi K40S runs MIUI 13 is based on Android 12 OS out of the box and packs 256GB of inbuilt storage. The smartphone is a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) mobile that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards. In terms of dimensions, the handset measures 163.20 x 75.95 x 7.70mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 195.00 grams. 

For connectivity options on the Xiaomi Redmi K40S include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, GPS, Bluetooth v5.20, NFC, Infrared, USB Type-C, 3G, 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks), and 5G. Sensors on the smartphone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and in-display fingerprint sensor. It was launched in Aurora, Black, Green, Silver, and colours.
