The Belift Lab agency has finally opened its voice regarding the plagiarism issue accused by ADOR and CEO Min Hee Jin of the rookie girl group, ILLIT. On Monday June 10, 2024, the agency that oversees ILLIT and ENHYPEN uploaded a video about 20 minutes long on their official YouTube channel .
Belift Lab explained that Min Hee Jin had sacrificed an innocent rookie for his personal reasons. The artists, Belift Lab and the creators involved felt so aggrieved that the agency filed a civil lawsuit against ADOR today June 10, 2024.
Highlighting past Court decisions, Belift Lab explained that the 50th Seoul Central Civil Court ruling only prevented HYBE from exercising its voting rights at its shareholder meetings. However, this is not the case with the plagiarism issue that ADOR accused ILLIT of.
The agency expressed, "It would be wrong to distort this as a victory for Min Hee Jin over the plagiarism issue. Regardless of the decision, the criminal case for obstructing business and defamation against Min Hee Jin will continue."
Previously, the ADOR CEO accused Belift Lab of plagiarizing its work by debuting ILLIT, which has the same concept as NewJeans, at its first press conference. Her statement immediately led to hate speech towards ILLIT and also led to the opinion that the rookie girl group had really imitated NewJeans.
In the video uploaded by Belift Lab, they responded to accusations of plagiarism by including a video compilation of choreography and the concept of NewJeans which also copied other groups. Claiming that Min Hee Jin's concept is also not original. At first, Belift Lab chose to observe the ADOR CEO and wait for them to take care of it themselves.
The misleading claims made by Min Hee Jin continue to exist, so that Belift Lab can no longer afford to remain silent. Furthermore, Belift Lab also released a video interview with CEO Kim Tae Ho, Deputy CEO Choi Yoon Hyuk, and ILLIT Performance Director, Myung Sang Woo.
They denied that their group had similarities with ILY:1 and NewJeans. Belift Lab expressed its disappointment with Min Hee Jin's attitude, who previously seemed to want to make peace efforts, but nothing has materialized until now. "In her second press conference, Min Hee Jin showed an attitude of reconciliation.
However, she has not offered a single word of apology or reflection to the innocent victims, including the artists who suffered severe malicious comments because of her actions. Instead, she instead shifted the blame to other parties, such as the media. This is very regrettable," said Belift Lab.
