Bong Jaehyun or Golden Child's Jaehyun recently discussed his role in the latest Korean drama entitled ' High School Return of a Gangster '. This drama tells the story of a 47 year old gangster whose soul is trapped in the body of a 19 year old high school student after witnessing the student about to commit suicide.
Jaehyun plays Choi Se Kyung, an honor student who seems to have a perfect life, but he has deep inner wounds. “It feels unreal that we have finished (the drama). "I still feel like I can't let go of 'High School Return of a Gangster' and Se Kyung," said Jaehyun as quoted by Soompi June 24, 2024.
Jaehyun also revealed how he deepened the character of Choi Se Kyung, who looks like a model student but hides the pain in her heart. “I was very focused on portraying the dual nature of the character. Se Kyung feels pressured to maintain a perfect image for her school friends and the people around her, so I tried to clearly depict these contrasting sides," he said.
When he put on his school uniform again after a long time, Jaehyun admitted that he was a little awkward. But as he continued filming, he felt something was missing when he didn't wear a uniform. Next, Jaehyun chose the scene that impressed him the most in the drama.
According to him, the scene when Choi Se Kyung expresses anger towards her father because of CCTV is his favorite scene. "It was the moment where Se Kyung finally expressed the pain she had been experiencing for a long time, so that scene was the most memorable for me," he added.
Playing the character Choi Se Kyung is a challenge in itself for Jaehyun, because this character often has changing moods throughout the story. “I felt it was very important to depict its dual nature clearly. "At first it wasn't easy, but I navigated it well through discussions with the director," said Jaehyun.
Regarding the atmosphere on the shooting location and good relationships with fellow actors, Jaehyun admitted that he had very good chemistry with the other actors because the atmosphere on the shooting location was very comfortable and family friendly.
