No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem has announced his next film project. At the San Sebastián Film Festival, Bardem revealed that he has officially joined the cast of  El ser querido. Adapted from Deadline on Saturday September 21, 2024, El ser querido is a film by Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen. 

This film is one of six auteur films announced by Spain's leading pay TV and SVOD operator, Movistar Plus+. The support of Movistar Plus+ will ensure that the film becomes one of the most anticipated Spanish film projects of 2025. 

Filming will begin in January on the island of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. The film El ser querido tells the story of a famous director who, after years of not communicating with his daughter—a failed actress—decides to work together on a film project. 

However, a conflict on the set makes the two of them have to face problems from the past that they have been avoiding. Javier Bardem previously appeared as Stilgar in Dune: Part Two which made his name even more popular due to the viral Lisan al Gaib meme. 

He also played King Triton in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid which was released in 2023 and grossed over $565 million at the global box office. He also appeared in the Prime Video original series Being the Ricardos and starred in The Roads Not Taken alongside Elle Fanning and Salma Hayek. 

A few years earlier, Bardem had collaborated again with Penélope Cruz in Everybody Knows, after previously starring together in Loving Pablo, a film about the life of Pablo Escobar and the journalist who fell in love with him. Javier Bardem was first nominated for an Oscar in 2001 for Before Night Falls . 

A few years later, he gave a career-best performance in No Country for Old Men and won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. In No Country for Old Men , Bardem plays Anton Chigurh, a serial killer with a cruel and manipulative nature. The film, written and directed by the Coen Brothers, also stars Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
