In the final episode of Channel A’s The Witch, aired on March 15, 2025, Park Jin Young and Roh Jeong Eui finally broke the “rule of death” and found salvation in each other, delivering a happy ending that viewers have been waiting for.
The finale continued the story of detective Jung Hyuk (Lim Jae Hyuk) as he traced the whereabouts of the missing Dong Jin (Park Jin Young). Jung Hyuk handed Mi Jeong (Roh Jeong Eui) the report on “denying the existence of a witch” that Dong Jin couldn’t deliver to her ten years ago.
He also revealed that Dong Jin had been trying to break the “rule of death” to find a way to love Mi Jeong, regardless of whether she was a “witch.” Learning about Dong Jin’s years of devotion to her, Mi Jeong finally went in search of him, traveling to Hallstatt, the small Austrian village she had long dreamed of visiting.
Following Jung Hyuk’s advice that “the answer lies in the problem,” Dong Jin was indeed waiting for Mi Jeong there. When they finally reunited, Dong Jin confessed, “Park Mi Jeong, I love you.” But simultaneously, dark clouds and lightning gathered, heightening the tension.
At that moment, Mi Jeong held onto Dong Jin as he tried to distance himself, saying, “This is just my heart.” The “final variable” – also the subtitle of the finale – was that people who liked Mi Jeong had accidents when they left her side, but nothing happened when they stayed together.
Finally, Mi Jeong’s confession followed: “I love you too, Lee Dong Jin,” and the sky gradually calmed. Although they couldn’t be certain if there would be more variables, they decided to move forward together despite the uncertainty. The two finally broke the “rule of death” and chose to be together. Their beautiful, redemptive love completed the well-made mystery romance, leaving a deep, resonant impression.
