IU has received a lot of praise for her role in the Netflix drama "When Life Gives You Tangerines". The actress, born in 1993, will soon be busy with a new drama project titled "Wife of a 21st Century Prince".
However, IU was recently rumored to have left the production team of "Wife of a 21st Century Prince" which she was supposed to star in with Byeon Woo Seok . It was said that IU's decision to leave was due to a conflict of opinion regarding broadcasting.
In an interview conducted on April 2, 2025, IU directly responded to the rumors of her departure from "Wife of a 21st Century Prince." The singer of "Love Wins All" was apparently shocked by the speculations that she considered so baseless.
"I was really shocked. In this industry, I realized sometimes smoke really does come out of the chimney without fire," she continued. The singer of "above the time" even wondered if she was being removed from "Wife of a 21st Century Prince".
"The articles sounded so convincing that I started to wonder, 'Wait, did I really get kicked out of the drama?'. I thought it was all just a big misunderstanding," IU said. The idol also mentioned Woo Seok. "Didn't Woo Seok also say that he wouldn't leave? We're both in, and I hope to work with him," she added.
IU also clarified that she is still actively involved in the production process. "I actually just met with the director yesterday to discuss the project. I heard Woo Seok did the same thing," she said. IU also admitted to feeling nervous about acting in "Wife of a 21st Century Prince".
"I'm not going to lie, there's definitely pressure. This role is completely different from Ae Sun or Geum Myeong, so I'm nervous, but excited. Today marks the end of promotions for 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' Starting tomorrow, I'll be Hee Joo," she concluded, referring to her character in "Wife of a 21st Century Prince."
On the other hand, "Wife of a 21st Century Prince" will carry a fictional setting in 21st century South Korea which has a constitutional monarchy system of government. This drama tells a love story between a wealthy woman with the status of a commoner and a royal prince.
In "Wife of a 21st Century Prince," IU will play Seong Hee Joo, the second daughter of a top South Korean chaebol family. She has everything from wealth, brains, beauty, and a relentless competitive spirit. However, her status as a commoner becomes a surprising obstacle in her life.
