Heavenly Ever After is one of the new Korean dramas that carries the fantasy romance genre. The Korean drama stars Kim Hye-ja and Son Suk-ku as the main characters. The premise of the drama Heavenly Ever After is set in Heaven, where it tells the story of a married couple who finally meet again after being separated for decades.
A grandmother named Lee Hae-sook (Kim Hye-ja) died at the age of 80. When she was alive, she had been the head of the household after her husband died in a tragic accident. Upon arriving in the afterlife, Hae-sook must make a big choice when she enters the Heaven Admission Counseling Office.
She decides to live in Heaven at the same age as when she died, which is 80 years old. On the other hand, Hae-sook actually has the right to choose any age during her life to live in Heaven. The choice was made because her husband once said that Lee Hae-sook looked very beautiful after getting older.
She finally enters Heaven and reunites with her husband, Ko Nak-joon (Son Suk-ku). They are both shocked because Lee Hae-sook sees Nak-joon in his youth, at the age of 30, while her husband sees his wife in her 80s.
They were even more surprised because it turned out that Lee Hae-sook was the only person in Heaven who chose not to return to her youth in Heaven. Meanwhile, Ko Nak-joon, who died earlier, seems to have decided to work as a postman in Heaven. He delivers many letters regarding wishes that come from Earth.
He also spent time building a beautiful house in Heaven while waiting for his wife to arrive. The two eventually met and started a new life in Heaven together. That life is filled with the presence of other inhabitants of Heaven, such as a girl named Som-yi (Han Ji-min) who suddenly appears and Lee Young-ae (Lee Jung-eun).
Heavenly Ever After itself is a drama directed by Kim Sok-yun with a script by Lee Nam-kyu and Kim Su-jin. Kim Sok-yun has previously sat in the director's chair for various hit dramas, ranging from the drama Law School (2021), My Liberation Notes (2022), to Behind Your Touch (2023).
So this project also serves as a reunion for Son Suk-ku and director Kim Sok-kyun who previously collaborated on the drama My Liberation Notes (2022). Meanwhile, Lee Nam-kyu has become a drama scriptwriter for The Light in Your Eyes (2019), Behind Your Touch (2023), and Daily Dose of Sunshine (2023).
This drama also features appearances from actors such as Kim Hye-ja, Son Suk-ku, Han Ji-min, Lee Jung-eun, Cheon Ho-jin, Ryu Deok-hwan, and Jung Ji-ahn. On the other hand, Son Suk-ku is an actor born in 1983 who has played in many famous dramas.
Starting from Matrimonial Chaos (2018), Designated Survivor: 60 Days (2019), DP (2021–2023), My Liberation Notes (2022), and A Killer Paradox (2024), as well as the films Nothing Serious (2021), and The Roundup (2022). Meanwhile, Kim Hye-ja is one of the legendary Korean actresses who has been involved in acting for a long time.
She has successfully played roles in dramas ranging from Country Diaries (1980–2002), What Is Love? (1991), My Mother's Sea (1993), Roses and Beansprouts (1999), and Our Blues (2022). Heavenly Ever After consists of 12 episodes scheduled to air every Saturday and Sunday. The Korean drama can be watched on Netflix.
