South Korean girl group, Red Velvet consists of five members, namely Seulgi, Irene, Joy, Wendy and Yeri. Formed since 2014 by SM Entertainment, Red Velvet has won many awards and worldwide popularity.
In an official statement on April 4, 2025, SM Entertainment announced that their exclusive contracts with Yeri and Wendy have ended. Meanwhile, the other 3 members Seulgi, Irene and Joy decided to extend their contracts in August 2023, February 2024, and January 2025 respectively.
"Since their debut as part of Red Velvet, Wendy and Yeri have been actively promoting both as part of Red Velvet and as soloists in various fields. We have felt so much happiness during our time together," the agency said. However, Red Velvet fans can still breathe a sigh of relief.
Because Wendy and Yeri will continue to participate in Red Velvet's group activities. So, please look forward to Red Velvet's bright future. The agency said that they really appreciate all the moments they have spent together and sincerely support Wendy and Yeri's careers even though they are no longer with SM Entertainment.
"We greatly appreciate the abundant love and support you have shown Wendy and Yeri. Please continue to support them as they take on new challenges in their respective fields. Thank you," he added. Wendy and Yeri's departure from the group that made their name sparked a shocking shock to fans.
The departure of the two girls was quite embarrassing for netizens. In the future, they hope that Wendy and Yeri's solo career or whatever they choose can keep them shining as stars. "Is Wendy going to go into musicals? I think they're really pushing her with solos and stuff," one netizen commented.
"I really like their music, so this is a shame," said another. "Wendy is going too? What a surprise," added another. "I listened to your songs well! I hope the other three will continue to promote even if not all five of them," said another.
