The K-pop industry is once again preparing to welcome a new breakthrough from Mnet through a global survival program titled BOYS II PLANET ! The program is a continuation of the success of Boys Planet, which previously gave birth to project group ZEROBASEONE.

With a bigger concept and an updated format , BOYS II PLANET aims to form the best K-pop boy group with the support of fans from all over the world. Originally, BOYS II PLANET was designed as two separate audition programs, BOYS II PLANET K for Korea and BOYS II PLANET C for Greater China, each with their own group debut plans.

However, on May 23, 2025, Mnet announced that the show’s format has been changed. Now, the program will unite both paths into one big narrative that will ultimately give birth to one global group. A representative from the production team said that the format change had been thoroughly explained to the participants and their agencies, and was understood by all parties involved.

" We want to strengthen the narrative and emotional appeal of this show. Therefore, the participants will initially appear as part of Planet K and Planet C, but as the competition progresses, they will join forces to pursue the same goal of debuting, " said the production team, quoted from Soompi on Thursday June 5, 2025.

The first teaser video and mood poster for BOYS II PLANET have also been released. The poster depicts a boy holding a light in the midst of darkness, a symbol of determination and passion to move towards a dream. In the next three days, various posters and lyrics of the show's theme song will be introduced through official SNS, adding to the enthusiasm of fans.

The show is scheduled to premiere on July 17, 2025 for BOYS II PLANET K and July 18, 2025 for BOYS II PLANET C, each in a different language format but still carrying the same concept and vision. Interestingly, the program also received attention because several contestants were known to come from previously debuted idol groups.

Reporting from Allkpop on Thursday June 5, 2025, three members of the boy group MCND—Minjae, Hwijoon, and Win—were announced to be temporarily halting their group activities due to "personal schedules," which were strongly suspected to be related to their participation in BOYS II PLANET.

Not only MCND, members from other groups such as Jayder, Leejeong, and Wonjun from WHIB, Heechan and Harry June from DKB, Thanatorn from The Wind, Chris from BLITZERS, Dongheon, Gyehyeon, and Kang Min from VERIVERY, Kim Jun Seo from WEi, and Lee Hyeop and Kim Dong Yoon from DRIPPIN are also reported to be taking a hiatus to participate in this event.

This reflects the scale and reputation of the program in the industry, as well as the competitive challenges that await even those who have already debuted. The stricter format and evaluation are said to be an added value for this second season.

Mnet also stated that it will continue to seek opportunities for collaboration with global partners, especially from China, to open up career paths for participants after the program ends. This step shows their commitment to expanding the scope of the K-pop industry internationally.

With its revamped format, exciting contestant lineup, and large-scale production, BOYS II PLANET is one of the most anticipated programs for K-pop fans around the world this summer. Its premiere is believed to be the beginning of the journey of the next generation of global boy groups.
