Good Boy (2025) is JTBC's latest drama that carries the action-comedy genre. Tells the story of a group of former national athletes, namely Yoon Dong Joo (Park Bo Gum), Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), Kim Jong Hyun (Lee Sang Yi), Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae), and Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Suk), who now work as police through a special recruitment program.
They wear their proud medals with badges to face a world full of corruption, deceit, and injustice. Ahead of the premiere of Good Boy (2025) at the end of May, JTBC has been sharing new stills about the characters.
On Tuesday May 13, 2025, via their Instagram account, it was the turn of the character Yoon Dong Joo, played by actor Park Bom Gum, to be introduced to the public. Unlike his previous appearance as Yang Gwan Sik in When Life Gives You Tangerine (2025), Bo Gum in Good Boy will appear fierce as a boxer.
He will also play many action scenes that require him to run, jump, and fight. Yoon Dong Joo is a Korean national boxer, a gold medal winner at the 2018 Sao Paulo international event. Due to an incident, he was finally recruited into the police through a special national athlete recruitment route.
However, the struggle as a police officer was not that smooth. Dong Joo often caused trouble and chaos at the beginning of his career, which made him have to be demoted to the lowest police rank and finally assigned to the special crime unit.
In the unit, he joins other former athlete cops, namely, Ji Han Na as a former shooting athlete, Kim Jong Hyun as a former fencer, Go Man Sik as a former wrestler, and Shin Jae Hong as a former discus thrower. They are later nicknamed the "Goodvengers", because their athletic skills are useful for fighting crime.
Interestingly, this drama is Park Bo Gum's first project in the teen action genre. Yoon Dong Joo, this character shows the emotional struggles and ups and downs of young people's lives. "From the scorching summer to the biting winter, every episode is filled with action scenes," said Park Bo Gum on May 13, 2025.
The actor continued, "I was very enthusiastic about every scene we made with the team. With sharp direction, dynamic shooting, and stunning lighting.” In the newly released photos, Park Bo Gum is seen staring straight ahead or panting, with his face covered in cuts and bruises.
His intense gaze, clenched jaw, and tense posture depict Yoon Dong Joo who does not hesitate to jump straight into a challenge. Park Bo Gum describes Yoon Dong Joo’s character with one word: “bulldozer.” “Driven by a strong sense of justice, he leaves no room for criminals and takes action against corruption,” he explained.
The production team also commented on the actor's performance. They were confident in Park Bo Gum's acting, "Park Bo Gum really brought the character of Yoon Dong Joo to life perfectly through his sweat, wounds, gaze, and even his breath."
Yoon Dong Joo's signature action-packed style of justice makes the audience increasingly look forward to Park Bo Gum's bold and different actions from his previous roles.
