South Korean actor Kim Young Dae has officially announced that he will begin his mandatory military service in April 2026. The news was confirmed directly by his agency, Outeruniverse. 

As quoted by Soompi on Wednesday (March 25, 2026), the agency stated that the actor will fulfill his duties as an active duty soldier in the South Korean military. "Kim Young Dae will enlist in the military this coming April. 

He will fulfill his duty to the country as an active duty soldier," read an official statement from the agency. Based on this information, Kim Young Dae is expected to complete his military service around October 2027. Prior to this official announcement, Kim Young Dae had already touched on his plans to enlist in the military. 

In an interview, Kim Young Dae stated that military service is mandatory for all men in South Korea and can serve as a break in life. “Military service is something all men go through, but it can feel like a short break in a long journey,” said Kim Young Dae. 

The 29-year-old actor also hopes that after completing his national service, he will return to acting, choosing roles that truly suit his interests and abilities. “After I finish my service, I want to take on more roles that I am truly interested in and that I feel I can do well in,” he added. 

Kim Young Dae began his career in South Korean entertainment in 2017 through the web drama Secret Crushes. Since then, his name has gradually become known to the public thanks to various drama projects that have successfully captured the attention of audiences. 

His popularity increased after he starred in a number of famous dramas such as Extraordinary You (2019), the phenomenal series The Penthouse, Sh**ting Stars, Moon in the Day, and Boyfriend on Demand. Meanwhile, his last drama before his military service was Dear X. 

The series is currently available to watch on the streaming platform Viki. Kim Young Dae's departure for military service was met with support from his fans worldwide. They hoped the actor would complete his service smoothly, healthily, and return to the entertainment industry with his best work.
