Veteran Korean actor Choi Bul Am passed away at the age of 87. News of the actor's death was confirmed by the non-profit organization he headed, Zero Camp, as reported by Sports DongA on October 30, 2026
The actor, known as the National Father, died on Thursday (October 29, 2026) evening at a hospital in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. According to various local media reports, the actor, who won the Baeksang Arts Awards, has been experiencing declining health since last year.
He underwent surgery for a herniated disc in his back in March 2025. Since then, his mobility has been restricted. He even withdrew from the Korean Table TV show to undergo rehabilitation.
However, in 2026, his condition worsened. A funeral home is currently open at Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Mourners can come starting today to pay their respects to the actor.
The funeral will take place on November 2, 2026, organized by the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation (ChildFund Korea), in recognition of Choi Bul Am's dedication to the welfare of children and adolescents.
The funeral will be Catholic, presided over by Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo Jung. Yeom Soo Jung was also the one who baptized Choi Bul Am in October 2018, giving her the name Francis.
The same person also administered the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at the hospital on October 20, 2026. Waves of grief have poured out over the actor's passing. He was one of the most beloved figures in Korea.
