Chinese tech company, Huawei has launched a new foldable smartphone Mate Xs 2 in China. It is an outward folding device and is a direct successor to the Mate Xs from 2020. The new model certainly has noteworthy upgrades over the predecessor. However, it is limited to 4G connectivity at a time when 5G is becoming the norm.
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (1176 x 2480 pixels) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. When it is unfolded, you will get a bigger 7.8-inch display panel with 2200 x 2480 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a revamped folding hinge which is now more durable than ever. It does not leave any visible crease on the display either.
As for the camera department, Huawei Mate Xs 2 has a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture on the back panel. This is accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The front camera on the foldable is a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The whole package is powered by a 4,880mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging.
In terms of software, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 will boot Huawei's HarmonyOS 2 out of the box. The choice of processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G which means it does not have 5G support. It has a USB Type-C port and supports the M Pen 2s stylus as well. The foldable is available in three configurations featuring up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB onboard storage space.
As for the official pricing and availability, Huawei Mate Xs 2 Pricing: 8GB/256GB for CNY 9,999 (about $1,510), 8GB/512GB for CNY 11,499 (about $1,730) 12GB/512GB for CNY 12,999 (about $1,950). The available color options on the smartphone are White, Frost Purple, and Elegant Black. It will go on sale starting May 6.
