BTS' Jimin marked his solo debut by releasing the song Set Me Free Pt. 2 on March 17, 2023. This song will be the opening of a series of solo debut before releasing a full album titled FACE. Jimin also set a new record on iTunes in just 10 hours after its release. Set Me Free Pt. 2 managed to dominate the iTunes Top Songs chart in approximately 110 countries.
Among them are the United States, Britain, Japan, Canada, and Australia. This made Jimin succeed in making Set Me Free Pt. 2 as the fastest song on iTunes which managed to dominate the charts in more than 100 countries. Of course, this record is a very good start for Jimin's solo debut.
Meanwhile, the music video for Set Me Free Pt. 2 which was also released at the same time as the song, also showed a very rapid growth in terms of the number of viewers. On March 18, 2023 at 08.00 WIB, the MV has reached 14.2 million views on YouTube. Set Me Free Pt. 2 conveys a message of determination to move forward freely while saving oneself and eliminating the pain, sadness, emptiness, and various other emotions in it.
BTS' Jimin shows these emotions through a dark music video. As a musician who is also known for his ability to dance in a contemporary style, Jimin has successfully shown the message he wants to convey through his choreography moves. In the music video, you can also see that Jimin's front body is filled with lots of tattoos written in German.
Shortly after the music video was released, ARMY also discussed the meaning of the tattoo on social media. One ARMY later discovered that the tattoo was an inscription taken from a poem entitled Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen (I Live My Life In Widening Circles) by Austrian poet Rainer Marie Rilke (1875-1926).
The poem tells of someone who has gone through various things in life. He lives his life with all his heart, but still has not found his true identity. Jimin is the fourth BTS member to officially debut solo. Previously, J-Hope became the first member to release the album Jack in the Box, followed by Jin through the single The Astronaut, and RM who released the album Indigo.
