NewJeans started their summer comeback series for Get Up album. Two of the six songs on this album have been released, namely New Jeans and Super Shy. The second song made NewJeans the ruler of the Korean Melon chart since its release. Viewed Thursday July 13, 2023, NewJeans is perched at position #1 on the Melon 100 chart.
For your information, position #1 on the Melon Chart is a sacred position that is the most difficult for K-Pop singers or groups to achieve. Only names with immense popularity can make it here and NewJeans is definitely one of them. In the last 30 days, the top 5 positions on the Melon 100 chart haven't changed much.
This position is still held by names like LE SSERAFIM, IVE, and (G)I-DLE. aespa with the song Spicy was at #1 a few weeks ago, but after NewJeans came out with Super Shy, aespa was thrown to #6 this week. Another NewJeans song that has remained on the Melon 100 since its release is Hype Boy.
Meanwhile, two non-idol K-Pop singers who are popular in the top 10 of the Melon 100 are Im Young Woong and Parc Jae Jung who have also set their feet on this chart for several weeks. Super Shy has been streamed over 17 million times on Spotify, while the MV released 6 days ago has been viewed over 22 million times on YouTube HYBE LABELS.
In the Super Shy MV, NewJeans is back with their typical schoolboy uniform. This MV was filmed in Portugal. In the Super Shy video, New Jeans can be seen celebrating summer with the locals, dancing and dancing under the scorching sun. Super Shy was written by Danielle, Donghyun Kim, Erika de Casier, Frankie Scoca, Gigi, and Kristine Bogan.
The music still feels distinctly NewJeans from the songs on their debut album. For the Get Up album, NewJeans will release 6 MVs including ETA, Cool With You, Get Up, and ASAP. All MVs will be released throughout this month with the closing of the mini album release on July 21, 2023.
