K-Pop fans are no stranger to the name 2NE1. The second generation K-Pop girl group was one of the strongest idols of its time. Carrying a genre of music that is different from other groups, Park Bom, CL, Sandara Park, and Minzy always managed to amaze their fans before disbanding in 2016.
Recently, former 2NE1 member, Sandara Park (also known as Dara) shared a story about herself when she was with 2NE1. Sandara described the uncertainty and emotional turmoil that engulfed 2NE1 during the production of their last album, "CRUSH".
Speaking with a nostalgic touch, he recalls the dread he felt while recording their single "MISSING YOU", hinting that the group would end soon. "The agency said that 2NE1 is over now. I thought were we number 10 on the chart? We always won first place, but now we are number 10.
We are sad, and the fans and the agency are also sad," said Sandara Park as quoted from Koreaboo on July 12, 2023. According to Sandara, 2NE1's singles "Falling In Love" and "Do You Love Me" did not perform as expected, causing worry and sorrow within the group and the agency.
Next, Sandara shared a sad moment when YG Entertainment officials told them, "This album won't be successful. Let's stop promoting now." The shocking statement left the 2NE1 members feeling devastated, wondering if this was really the end of 2NE1's journey.
"I'm not sure if it was a joke or something he said because he was upset, but we recorded "MISSING YOU" after we shared that conversation and the last lyrics were too similar to a breakup story," said Sandara. The song "MISSING YOU" depicts sadness with lyrics that sound eerily like a breakup song.
Feeling such strong emotions through the song, Sandara and Park Bom couldn't hold back their tears in the recording studio. They spend hours crying until their eyes swell. However, the members had hope when the song "MISSING YOU" climbed the charts to secure No.1. The members felt a little relieved, then put their whole heart into promoting the song.
Ironically, even though they had a glimmer of hope through the song "MISSING YOU", in the end "CRUSH" would be their last album. The sudden disbandment after the album's release felt like an unexpected blow to the members and fans alike, marking the end of an iconic era in K-Pop history.
