Seven members of Kep1er are reportedly going to extend their contracts. Kep1er will change from a group of nine people to seven people. The seven Kep1er members who extended their contracts are Yujin, Xiaoting, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, and Youngeun.
The report states that Mashiro and Yeseo will be leaving Kep1er and joining the girl group LIMELIGHT under their original agency, 143 Entertainment. 143 Entertainment is currently the agency that also manages iKON. “We even discussed with CJ ENM until yesterday whether to extend Yeseo and Mashiro's Kep1er activities.
"We are still reviewing this matter carefully, and no decision has been taken," said 143 Entertainment as quoted by Soompi on Thursday May 16, 2024. Kep1er is a girl group formed through the Mnet survival audition program 'Girls Planet 999' which aired from August to October 2021. Kep1er made its debut in January 2022.
The name Kep1er was suggested by the viewer 'Girls Planet 999' via the Naver website, which refers to the planets in the Kepler star system named after the 16th century astronomer, Johannes Kepler. After the survival program ended, they signed an exclusive contract with WAKEONE as a temporary group to promote for two and a half years. According to the plan, Kep1er's contract will end in July 2024.
However, the member agency CEOs gathered to positively discuss the extension of the project group's activities. In the end, seven of the nine members successfully renewed their contracts. Kep1er is the first idol group created through an audition program to extend their contract.
Meanwhile, recently Kep1er held their second Japanese concert tour entitled Kep1er Japan Concert Tour 2024 'Fly-High' in Chiba, precisely at the Makuhari Event Hall on February 23 and 24, and in Kobe at the Kobe World Memorial Hall on March 2 and 3. Kep1er is currently preparing for their comeback by releasing a new studio album entitled 'Kep1going On' which will be released on June 3.
