A small fire occurred at aespa's pre-recording location for Mnet's music program ' M Countdown ', precisely at the CJ ENM Center studio in Sangam, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The fire was caused by a problem at the shooting location. It is confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire.
"During the artist's pre-recording for 'M Countdown', a fire occurred when sparks flew into the shooting location located in the corner of the stage," said Mnet as quoted by Soompi on Thursday May 16, 2024.
They continued, "The fire was detected at an early stage and immediately extinguished, and at the same time, the artists and audience were evacuated from the stage.” They added, “All ‘M Countdown’ sets are treated as fire-resistant, and we will carefully double-check the maintenance status to prevent the same problem from recurring.”
Mnet also said that aespa's comeback stage recording had been completed and would be broadcast without any problems. No additional recording was done after the fire. However, the fire had an impact on aespa members, especially Winter , who recently underwent pneumothorax surgery.
Winter should take full rest as the symptoms of pneumothorax can easily reappear. Following the incident, SM Entertainment released a statement announcing that Winter would be absent from today's live broadcast due to health issues.
"Today, problems occurred on set during the pre-recording of 'M Countdown'. After that, it was decided that Winter needed rest and stability due to her poor health condition," said SM Entertainment. They continued, "So only Karina, Giselle, and Ningning will attend today's 'M Countdown' live broadcast.
Winter's participation in other scheduled activities will be decided considering his recovery status." Meanwhile, at today's 'M Countdown' event, aespa will perform 'Supernova', one of their comeback songs from the album 'Armageddon' which will be released on May 27, 2024.
Shortly after its release, the song 'Supernova' topped the iTunes charts in 11 countries, including Cambodia, Colombia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Vietnam and more. Hope Winter recovers quickly as usual!
