SEVENTEEN attended the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Youth appointment ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on Wednesday June 26, 2024 local time. At the ceremony, the boy group made by Pledis Entertainment received a letter of appointment from UNESCO Secretary General Audrey Azoulay and delivered a speech.

Representing his group, Joshua delivered a speech expressing the feelings of SEVENTEEN members after being appointed as Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth by UNESCO. “We were here at the UNESCO Youth Forum last November and it was an unforgettable experience.

We always want to come back. "Thank you for inviting SEVENTEEN to this important event," said Joshua as quoted from KBIZoom June 26, 2024. He added, “Today, we are humbled and overwhelmed to stand before you for the first time as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth.”

Furthermore, Joshua revealed that SEVENTEEN felt given a great honor because they were appointed to represent today's young generation, which is UNESCO's priority group. "Looking back, it has been a long journey for us, step by step, until we can stand before you as youth ambassadors," he added.

Furthermore, Joshua said that since debut, SEVENTEEN's music has spoken about their experiences and sincere emotions. Over the past 9 years, at various stages of their youth, they have interacted with people who love their music.

"Thanks to the love from CARAT (SEVENTEEN fans), we have built a strong bond, and a sense of belonging with the younger generation all over the world. Each of our members has gradually grown a sense of responsibility to speak on behalf of the youth, and encourage them to chasing their dreams," said Joshua.

He added, "And last year, we took part in a youth forum, here at UNESCO headquarters. Meeting youth delegates from all over the world was an eye-opening experience, which made us think 'What more can we do for our fellow generations young?'.

" Meanwhile, UNESCO appointed people with world-renowned reputations from various fields as ambassadors. The aim is to raise global awareness and encourage participation in UNESCO's ideals and activities.

In this case, SEVENTEEN became the first K-pop artist to become an official UNESCO ambassador. This becomes more meaningful when UNESCO appoints Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth or ambassadors for youth who are their priority group. Once again congratulations to SEVENTEEN!
