BTS fans or ARMY recently expressed disappointment when actor Kim Woo Bin bought the former headquarters of BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE). Quoting from KBIZoom on Thursday June 27, 2024, according to real estate industry reports, Kim Woo Bin bought a building in the Nonhyeon-dong area, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on March 29, 2024 and completed the payment on April 11, 2024.
Consisting of one basement floor, four above ground floors and two underground floors, the building was sold for 13.7 billion won (around IDR 162 billion). Kim Woo Bin paid 8.3 billion won (around Rp. 98 billion) in cash, then took out an unsecured bank loan of around 6.2 billion won (around Rp. 73 billion), and paid a purchase tax of 4.6%.
“ The building that Kim Woo Bin bought is in a prime location, often targeted by celebrities and entertainment companies. "At 13.7 billion won, this seems like a smart, well-calculated investment," said Kim Jae Young, head of real estate company Building Road. Meanwhile, BigHit, which is BTS's agency, used the building as an office since 2007 until expanding to a nearby building in 2011.
In 2020, BigHit changed its name to HYBE and moved to its current headquarters in Yongsan. When they heard that the building was sold and bought by Kim Woo Bin, ARMY admitted they were disappointed. The reason is, this building holds important memories for BTS, from their trainee days to becoming popular global stars.
In addition, the building holds many precious memories and has become a must-visit location for international ARMYs visiting South Korea. As a result, Kim Woo Bin received mixed reactions from ARMYs, who were concerned that the building would be renovated, erasing messages and notes left by fans over the years.
" That's a building that is a witness to BTS's struggle, in fact. A historical building that is an iconic place and a mandatory tourist attraction for ARMYs every time they go to Korea, " wrote one fan. " Duh, those memories are expensive, you can't buy them with any amount of money, you don't know whether to be happy or sad, " said another fan.
Responding to ARMY's disappointment, netizens provided various comments. Netizens think that ARMY has no right to blame Kim Woo Bin for buying a building that was actually being bought and sold. " If the graffiti gets deleted later, please don't insult Woo Bin, it's his building, what he likes to do with it, " wrote one netizen.
" Don't blame the person who bought it. If someone is selling it, it's normal to buy it. If it can't be renovated, it's better if you work together to buy the building, " said another netizen. " It's okay to be sad, but you have no right to blame Woo Bin. He's just a buyer, it has nothing to do with your sadness, " another netizen chimed in.
