Neon Pictures recently released the poster for the film The Monkey, which is an adaptation of a short story by Stephen King. Apart from that, they also announced that this film will be ready to be broadcast on February 21, 2025.

The original story based on this film was first published in Gallery magazine in 1980 and then significantly revised when it was included in the story collection book Skeleton Crew by Stephen King five years later. The Monkey film will be written and directed by Osgood Perkins.

In a recent appearance on the Boo Crew Podcast, Osgood compared the style or feel of the film The Monkey with horror films from the 1980s to 1990s which had more intense or extreme elements. "This film will feel more like Misery, Creepshow, Gremlins, or American Werewolf.

This is much different from the previous works I have made. For me, if we make a film about toy monkeys, we can be serious in presenting it. But many of the works King has a humorous and nostalgic feel," said Osgood Perkins, quoted from ComicBook on Saturday June 22, 2024.

" So, we tried to make a film that felt like films from the late 1980s to the 1990s. It's like if Robert Zemeckis had a little 'hallucination' and made a Stephen King film about toy monkeys ," he continued explaining. In the film The Monkey , twin brothers named Hal and Bill find an old toy monkey belonging to their father in the attic of their house.

After that, a series of horrific death events occurred around them. Haunted by fear, they throw away the toys and live their own lives, moving away from each other as time goes by. But when mysterious deaths occur again, they are forced to meet again to find a way to destroy the monkey before it takes the lives of those closest to them.

The Monkey film will feature Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Meanwhile behind the scenes there are Michael Clear, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Chris Ferguson as well as executive producers Fred Berger, Peter Luo, Nancy Xu, and John Friedberg producing this film.
