Wednesday hit series star Jenna Ortega is reportedly exploring her first collaboration project with Natalie Portman in the new dark comedy film titled The Gallerist. Citing a report from Deadline on Thursday October 31, 2024, Jenna Ortega is in talks or negotiations to star in the film The Gallerist which will be directed by Cathy Yan.

In addition to directing, Cathy Yan co-wrote the screenplay with James Pedersen. Natalie Portman will produce, working with Sophie Mas through their MountainA production company. The project will also be produced by Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, and Zola Elgart Glassman.

The Gallerist focuses on an art dealer who finds himself in a precarious situation when he tries to display a dead man as a work of art at Art Basel Miami, the prestigious international art fair in Miami Beach. Cathy Yan is known for directing Birds of Prey in the DC Extended Universe, making her the first Asian woman to direct a superhero film in Hollywood. 

Her feature film debut, Dead Pigs , received rave reviews with a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was inspired by the 2013 incident when thousands of pig carcasses were found floating in the Huangpu River. Cathy Yan also received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2022 for directing an episode of the third season of HBO's Succession .

Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega's career as an actress is at its peak after playing a role in the Netflix series Wednesday and the box office hit film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. After scoring a huge success with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which grossed over $400 million, Jenna Ortega will now appear in the second season of the Wednesday series . 

In addition, she is also scheduled to be involved in a secret project with JJ Abrams which is planned to be released next year. With experience in bringing characters and stories that tend to be dark , the actress born in September 2002 is considered suitable to join Yan's production which is full of tragic elements and sarcastic humor.
