SM Entertainment is reportedly set to debut a new girl group in 2025. The girl group will debut about five years after SM last launched aespa as their newest girl group in 2020. Jang Cheol-hyuk as SM Entertainment's Co-CEO also confirmed that the girl group will debut in the first quarter of 2025 and has become part of the agency's projections for next year.
"In addition to the artist groups that we have long loved, SM has been continuously debuting new artists since last year, creating various artist IPs for all generations of Kpop," said Cheol-hyuk, as reported by Isplus via Naver, on Tuesday November 5, 2024. The new girl group will be a continuation of SM Entertainment's roadmap, SM 3.0.
The project consists of several other previously announced IPs, such as NCT WISH, RIIZE, Dear Alice, and naevis. Jang Cheol-hyuk also announced that other idol groups under SM Entertainment will continue their respective activities in 2025, such as launching new albums, new merchandise, and concert tours to various countries.
On the one hand, various other music projects have also been announced for the fourth quarter of 2024 and will continue as planned. "We plan to hold more concerts and release more merchandise and albums next year," said Jang Cheol-hyuk. Meanwhile, there is still no further news regarding the new girl group announced by the big agency.
SM Entertainment is still keeping the concept, name, and members who will fill the group under wraps. The upcoming project will add to the long list of girl groups that have debuted under SM Entertainment. The agency has launched Girls' Generation, Red Velvet, and aespa to careers in the K-pop industry.
In addition, these groups have also developed into sub-units, such as Girls' Generation-Oh!GG and Red Velvet - Irene & Seulgi. They even released a supergroup project called Got the Beat consisting of BoA, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, Red Velvet's Seulgi and Wendy, and aespa's Karina and Winter.
