Andrew Garfield apparently did not rule out the possibility of returning to play the character of Spider-Man. However, he hinted that if he did return, he would not want to just repeat the old concept. As is known, Andrew Garfield played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man which was released in 2012 and its sequel in 2014.

Unfortunately, the film project was halted and the Spider-Man character was later rebooted to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Andrew Garfield reprises his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), starring alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland in a moment that will satisfy many viewers' nostalgia.

Since then, rumors of Andrew Garfield's return to the Spider-Man universe have continued to circulate, and fans have not stopped hoping. While appearing at Abu Dhabi Comic Con, Andrew Garfield was asked what would make him want to don the Spider-Man costume again.

In his interview quoted by Comic Book Movie, Andrew Garfield enthusiastically answered that he was very open to returning to play Spider-Man. However, there is one condition that Andrew Garfield has put forward. He wants his comeback this time to feel different from the previous ones.

He hopes to appear in an unusual story and beyond expectations. " I would love to play the character again in any form, but I think it would have to be really weird. I think I would want to do something really unusual—something unique, something weird, and something that would surprise the audience ," Andrew Garfield said, quoted on Thursday April 24, 2025.

What Andrew Garfield means by the words “weird” or “unusual” can of course vary from person to person. But the comments seem to add fuel to a recent wave of speculation—a possible appearance in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is scheduled for release in June 2027.

The reason for the delay is not arbitrary. Beyond the Spider-Verse is said to bring a major breakthrough in the world of animated films. One of the breakthroughs that is being widely discussed is the presence of live-action characters such as Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man who will be included in the animated world, or vice versa.

This concept is reminiscent of the classic film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) which seamlessly combines the real world and animation. On the other hand, many fans also believe that Andrew Garfield will return to wearing the Spider-Man costume in the film Avengers: Secret Wars.

Rumors are circulating that the film will be set in Battleworld—a world that is a combination of various Marvel universes. If true, this opens up the opportunity for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man to appear alongside other MCU heroes, including variants from the multiverse .

Not only that, the character played by Andrew Garfield can also appear in a different form from the one we have known so far. He could be living on Spider-Island like in the comics, or even playing an alternate version of Peter Parker who has never appeared on the big screen.

One interesting possibility is if Andrew Garfield is trusted to play Peter Parquagh, Spider-Man from the 1602 universe. In an interview with Esquire magazine in 2024, Andrew Garfield previously touched on the possibility of returning as Spider-Man and said he would be open to it if the story was worth adapting.

" I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it was a positive contribution to the culture, if there was a great concept or something that had never been done before—something unique, weird, fun, and that you could really enjoy ," Andrew Garfield said. " I love the character, and it brings happiness. If what I bring is happiness, then I am happy in return," he said further.
