Former WINNER Member Nam Taehyun was arrested by the police for drunk driving. So far, Nam Taehyun has been considered controversial by netizens because of his series of cases. He is back in trouble with the authorities, shortly after being released from prison.
Previously on Wednesday March 8, 2023, Nam Taehyun was involved in an accident at 03.30 in the morning local time. While driving drunk, he suddenly pulled over to the side of the road in the Gangnam area and opened his car door. A taxi that was driving hit Nam Taehyun's door. As a result of the collision, the taxi's rearview mirror was damaged.
And after the incident, Nam Taehyun continued driving for about 20 meters. Until finally the police rushed to the scene and tested his alcohol content which was quite high at 0.114% to revoke Nam Taehyun's driving license. The court ruled that Nam Taehyun was sentenced to a fine of 6 million won for violating the Traffic Act.
The drunk driving case occurred amidst Nam Taehyun's drug case investigation. The controversial K-Pop idol admitted to charges of possession of methamphetamine along with Heart Signal 3 variety star Seo Min Jae, with a sentence of two years in prison and a fine of 500 thousand won.
After being released from prison and starting his comeback, Nam Taehyun has had another run-in with the police. According to a report by Newsen on Thursday May 8, 2025, he was arrested for causing an accident on the Gangbyeon Expressway while trying to overtake another vehicle on the highway on Sunday April 27, 2025.
No one was injured in the accident, but Nam Taehyun was recorded as having a high alcohol content of 0.08% and his driver's license was revoked. Seoul Yongsan Police reported that his drunk driving trial will be held soon. "The drunk driving case involving Nam Taehyun will soon proceed to trial after additional investigation," the police said, as reported by allkpop.
Meanwhile, Nam Taehyun is scheduled to release his new album on Friday May 9, 2025. His appearance at a music festival in Hongdae on Tuesday May 6, 2025 was suddenly canceled two days before the event. The singer of 'On the Edge of the Night' is still on probation for two years after being found guilty of drug use.
