Sad news has enveloped the South Korean film industry. One of the country's famous directors, Park Hee Gon, has passed away. Park Hee Gon's family announced that he passed away on Wednesday April 30, 2024. He took his last breath at the age of 56.

Furthermore, the family explained the cause of death of the director of the film Perfect Game (2011). It turned out that he had been fighting a chronic illness. Park Hee Gon passed away after being in a coma for two years. 

He had a cardiac arrest in 2023 and had been in a coma ever since. Earlier this year, his health showed signs of improvement. But he never regained consciousness after that. Park Hee Gon debuted in the South Korean film industry in 2009 through the film Insadong Scandal. 

The film starred Uhm Jung Hwa and Kim Rae Won. His name began to skyrocket when he directed a sports film entitled Perfect Game in 2011. This film was based on the true story of the rivalry between baseball players Choi Dong Won and Sun Dong Yeol.

In 2018, he returned with a period drama film project titled Fengshui. Cho Seung Woo stars in this project. Before going into a coma and passing away, Park Hee Gon had finished a film titled Target in August 2023. This film, starring actress Shin Hye Sun, was his last work.

As reported by Korea JoongAng Daily on Friday May 2, 2025, Park Hee Gon is currently being laid out at the Myongji Hospital funeral home in the Goyang area, Gyeonggi. The funeral will be held at Seoul Memorial Park in the same area.
