Shocking news came from the SBS Entertainment News report on Monday June 9, 2025, which revealed that the late South Korean actress Kim Sae Ron was carrying the family's debt before she passed away.
According to a 2023 court document, South Korean actress Kim Sae Ron was listed as one of the creditors in her father's personal bankruptcy case, referred to as Mr. A, with a debt amount exceeding 250 million won.
According to reports, Mr. A experienced business failure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving billions of won worth of debt to more than 20 creditors. He filed for personal bankruptcy with the Uijeongbu District Court in December 2020, and his bankruptcy and debt discharge were approved in March 2023.
Kim Sae Ron herself faced increasing financial pressure after a drunk driving accident in May 2022. Media estimates that her total debt is at least 1.2 billion won, including loans from acquaintances, as well as debts to her former agencies, GOLD MEDALIST and Run Entertainment.
In her drunken accident trial in 2023, Kim Sae Ron's side stated, "As the breadwinner of the family, Kim Sae Ron has supported her family. After the accident, she had to pay a large amount of compensation, so she experienced economic difficulties. Not only Sae Ron, her family also experienced difficulties in life."
However, in March 2025, Kim Sae Ron’s mother denied the allegations circulating. She said, “After Sae Ron passed away, various false news emerged, from stories that she was the breadwinner of the family, to accusations that the family spent the billions of won she earned.
There were many fake articles that weren’t even worth reading.” Kim Sae Ron passed away in February 2025 at the age of 25. After her passing, her family claimed that she had a relationship with actor Kim Soo Hyun when she was a minor, sparking a controversy that is still ongoing.
