SNSD's Choi Sooyoung has successfully expanded her wings in the Hollywood film industry. The SNSD Kpop group member became a supporting player in the spin-off of the popular action-thriller film John Wick, Ballerina.
On Saturday May 31, 2025, SNSD's Choi Sooyoung's agency released a portrait of her transformation as Katla Park. She looks stunning with light brown hair in an open dress. The leak of the Ballerina film immediately increased the curiosity and enthusiasm of fans.
The film, which is part of the John Wick Universe, will still feature Keanu Reeves as the main character. However, the Ballerina storyline focuses on telling the story of Ana de Armas as Eve Macaro, a ballerina and assassin trained at the Ruska Roma Ballet School.
SNSD's Choi Sooyoung's character, Katla Park, plays an important role for Eve Macaro in carrying out her first mission. Katla Park (played by SNSD's Choi Sooyoung) is the daughter of Ruska Roma's organization partner, Il Seong. Eve Macaro's first mission is to protect the ballerina who is performing at the luxurious dance club.
The photos released by Saram Entertainment depict a tense scene when Eve Macaro and Katla Park meet. Previously, Saram Entertainment also shared a video of SNSD's Sooyoung recounting the fight scene with Ana de Armas to protect her at the dance club.
"During the fight scene that takes place in the dance club, Katla Park appears in a moment that becomes a turning point in Eve Macaro's life." "It was the moment where Eve realized her identity as a hitman. I felt that Katla and that scene were very important in Eve's journey," explained SNSD's Choi Sooyoung.
When reading the script for the movie Ballerina for the first time, SNSD's Choi Sooyoung felt connected to the relationship between father Katla Park and his daughter that was depicted. Moreover, Jung Kyung Ho's lover considers her family to be everything.
"Although it's an action film, I was really drawn to the story because it explores the relationship between a father and a daughter. I really love my family and to me, they are everything. That emotional connection made the story even more meaningful to me," said SNSD's Choi Sooyoung.
To get into character as Katla Park, SNSD's Choi Sooyoung created a background from her own perspective during Eve Macaro's fight scene at the dance club. "I imagined it was Katla Park's birthday and from her career perspective, that day was a turning point where her dream finally came true. That day was full of reasons to celebrate."
"She (Katla Park) probably believed that only happiness and success awaited her. This background helped me to express her fear, her will to survive, and her complex emotions," she continued. Furthermore, SNSD's Choi Sooyoung expressed her feelings about being able to act alongside famous Hollywood actress Ana de Armas in this John Wick spin-off.
"She (Ana de Armas) is a really nice person and made me feel like I was really part of the team. As an actress, what impressed me the most was how she fully immersed herself in her character. Her dedication was evident in her previous works," recalled SNSD's Choi Sooyoung.
The Ballerina film will premiere in the United States starting June 6, 2025 and is then scheduled to hit South Korean theaters in August 2025.
