South Korean actor Song Young Kyu reportedly passed away on Monday August 4, 2025. As of Monday evening, the cause of death for the actor, who starred in "Extreme Job" (2019), was still under investigation by authorities.

Song Young Kyu was found dead around 8 a.m. local time in a residential complex in Cheon-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. MBN reported, citing Chozun Biz, that he was found in his vehicle by a friend. The same friend then reported the incident to the police.

The Yongin East Police Station confirmed her death after a team arrived at the scene. The case was immediately investigated further. There were no signs of violence at the scene, and no specific notes were found near the location where the body was found.

In order to determine the cause of death, the police are considering conducting an autopsy. The 55-year-old actor died after a DUI (drunken driving) case. On June 19, 2025, he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol for 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu, Yeongin, at around 11 p.m.

This case destroyed Song Young Kyu's career. He withdrew from the theatrical production of Shakespeare in Love. His involvement in the Korean dramas The Winning Try and The Defects was also affected by the case.

Song Young Kyu's appearances in the two currently airing Korean dramas are planned to be removed. If any still remain and must be aired, the production team stated they are trying to minimize their appearance as much as possible.

Edaily wrote in an article published on the day of Song Young Kyu's death that the actor, who also appeared in the Korean drama "The Penthouse 3," was allegedly under intense stress before his death.

The pressure stemmed from the public and netizens online due to the DUI case. "He was stressed by the malicious articles and comments, and the situation was very unfavorable at that time," said a source.

Song Young Kyu's body is currently lying in state in Special Room 1 of the Davos Hospital funeral home, Yongin. Born on April 18, 1970, Song Young Kyu has a long track record in acting.

He has starred in a number of popular dramas such as The Virus (2013), Hwarang (2016), Voice (2017), Reply 1988, Hot Stove League (2019), Narco-Saints (2022), and Love Scout and The Haunted Palace, which aired in 2025.
