South Korean actor, Choo Young Woo, is back in the public spotlight due to his latest controversy. On Thursday September 4, 2025, Choo Young Woo attended an event and was caught on camera using his personal cell phone.
Surprisingly, the cellphone case used depicted a schoolgirl character wearing a short skirt and garter belt standing in front of a shop that said “ADULT GOODS.” On the cellphone casing there is also the writing "LOVE MERCI" which turns out to be the name of an adult shop in the Akihabara area, Japan.
This sparked netizens' suspicions about alleged pedophilic elements in the illustration chosen by the actor. Netizens' investigations revealed that the casing illustrator also frequently sells other works with a similar theme, namely schoolgirl characters in provocative poses.
Public anger grew even greater because this was not the first time Choo Young Woo had been dragged into a sensitive issue. In early 2025, the actor was also criticized for following the accounts of BJ, who frequently posts vulgar content, as well as rapper Jung Sang Soo, who has a track record of legal cases.
In 2021, the South Korean actor even unfollowed 30 accounts after similar issues arose. His behavior at public events has also been questioned, most notably when he overreacted to actress Jang Do Yeon's dress at the 2025 Blue Dragon event.
