Kim Soo Hyun is scheduled to attend a hearing on a compensation lawsuit filed by a well-known cosmetics brand. The 500 million KRW lawsuit stems from his personal life controversy with the late Kim Sae Ron. The South Korean actor has caused losses to several brands that have recruited him as a model.
According to an exclusive report from Star News, the Seoul District Court followed up on a report made by the cosmetics brand's representatives in April 2025. The termination of Kim Soo Hyun's collaboration contract was first announced through their social media accounts in March 2025.
Despite initially remaining neutral and awaiting a statement from Kim Soo Hyun's agency, representatives of the cosmetics brand eventually took decisive action. They terminated the contract, which was supposed to last for one year until August 2025.
However, they were forced to terminate it early so that the modeling controversy wouldn't damage the brand's reputation. "We find it difficult to take swift action to terminate the contract without first hearing Kim Soo Hyun and his agency's statements."
"After reviewing the agency's statement, we determined that there were serious reasons preventing the fulfillment of the advertising contract, and we officially initiated the termination of the contract through our legal representatives.
This decision reflects our commitment to upholding our brand values and the trust our consumers have placed in us," said a representative of the cosmetics brand, which feels aggrieved by Kim Soo Hyun. Kim Soo Hyun and representatives of his agency Gold Medalist were required to attend the trial held on Friday November 21, 2025.
Kim Soo Hyun's controversy first surfaced in March 2024 when he was rumored to have dated the late Kim Sae Ron, who was still a minor. The reports were supported by circulating evidence in the form of conversations, photos, and videos shared by Kim Sae Ron's family.
As a result, Kim Soo Hyun lost advertising contracts and collaborations with several well-known brands, including Shinhan Bank, Shabu All Day, Prada, Homeplus, Dinto, Tous Les Jours, Cuckoo, and Jo Malone London. The total compensation claim he faces is 7.3 billion won.
