Lee Min Ho's latest big-screen film, The Assassin(s), is enjoying success at the South Korean box office. The film has officially reached 1 million viewers! The Assassin(s) is directed by Hur Jin Ho.
He is known for his films including A Normal Family (2024) and Five Senses of Eros (2009). On this project, Hur Jin Ho collaborated with screenwriters Kwon Ki Joon and Lee Ji Min.
The latter previously wrote the 2020 MBC Korean drama The Spies Who Loved Me. The film The Assassin(s) was inspired by the true story of the attempted assassination of President Park Chung Hee in 1974.
It happened during the National Liberation Day celebrations, when a Korean-Japanese man tried to assassinate the president. Park Chung Hee survived. However, the attempted shooting hit First Lady Yuk Young Soo, killing her.
This incident occurred on August 15, 52 years ago. In The Assassin(s), there will be three main characters guiding the story: a detective, a veteran journalist, and a rookie reporter named Young Il (played by Lee Min Ho).
The Assassin(s) premiered on September 23, 2026. The film, which also stars Yoo Hai Jin and Park Hae Il, was immediately swarmed by local audiences, reaching 1 million viewers on its third day of screening, September 26, 2026.
The Korean Film Council announced these figures on Saturday (September 26, 2026). As of 7 a.m. yesterday, The Assassin(s) had been viewed 1,057,760 times in theaters across South Korea.
The Assassin(s) is also currently the highest-grossing South Korean film in September, surpassing other films, including The Intern (starring Han So Hee and Choi Min Sik) and TAZZA: The Song of Beelzebub (starring Byun Yo Han).
