Kakao Entertainment has made the latest breakthrough to create an idol survival competition event that is different from before. Reporting from Allkpop on Saturday August 20, 2022, Kakao Entertainment will show a virtual competition program for the first time in South Korea . The program is titled ' VIP 30 ' or an abbreviation of 'Virtual Idol Project 30'.

This program is produced by Jo Wook Hyung who is also the creative producer for idol survival programs such as 'Queendom' and 'Road to Kingdom', and Park Jin Kyung who is the creative producer of the show 'My Little Television' from the original studio Kakao TV, and will be directed by Son Soo Jung PD and Jo Joo Yeon PD.

In this 'VIP 30' program, 30 contestants whose identities have been hidden will compete. Without revealing their real names, faces, or past history. The 30 contestants consist of current girl group members, former girl group members who have left the industry, as well as those who want to try their hand at debuting once again.

The contestants who won the 'VIP 30' program will later debut in a virtual idol group and promote as virtual members as well as participate in music and album releases. In addition, the 'VIP 30' program also plans to utilize VR technology including using motion capture cameras that will capture the movements and expressions of the contestants and transfer the captured images directly to their virtual characters.

The 'VIP 30' program produced by Kakao Entertainment is planned to be aired in the second half of 2022. Like other virtual idol groups, namely 'League of Legends' and girl group K/DA, this 'VIP 30' competition will also use the real voices of the contestants to participate in music releases.

This virtual idol competition program certainly provides a new color in the current variety of competition programs. Hiding an idol's identity by turning him into a virtual character is an interesting idea. However, not a few regret that the idol will not be known later after debut because they will continue to use virtual characters as their image and brand.
