Now, Billboard officially announced the album BORN PINK managed to occupy the first position on the Billboard 200 chart. The chart is a ranking list of the most popular albums in the United States.
Through this ranking, BLACKPINK became the first female K-Pop artist to dominate the Billboard 200 chart. They also became the world's first girl group to occupy the first position since 2008 which was then occupied by Danity Kane through Welcome to the Dollhouse. Based on data from Luminate, BORN PINK scored 102 thousand album-equivalent sales for the week to 22 September 2022.
The total score for the album consists of physical album sales of 75 thousand and 25 thousand streams. This record also beat BLACKPINK 's own record on the Billboard 200 chart. Previously, THE ALBUM, their debut album released in 2020, managed to occupy the second position on the Billboard 200. Congratulations, BLACKPINK!
Previously, BLACKPINK also broke the record for album sales for a week in South Korea. Hanteo Chart officially revealed the sales figures for the album BORN PINK which reached sales of 1.5 million in just a week (between 16 to 22 September 2022). BLACKPINK not only beat their own previous record, through the album THE ALBUM which sold 680 thousand copies in the first week.
They also beat the record achieved by AESPA who managed to sell Girls albums of 1.1 million copies in a week. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK not only made a comeback by releasing the album BORN PINK. At the same time, they also released the MV for the song Shut Down. Unlike the previous releases, namely Pink Venom, Jennie, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa brought a unique combination of classical music with hip hop.
