Actor Kwon Sang Woo has paid a tax fine of 1 billion won (approximately Rp. 11.6 billion) to the South Korean National Tax Service. Quoting from Soompi on Thursday March 2, 2023, a number of media outlets recently reported that actor Kwon Sang Woo and his agency Su Company underwent irregular tax audits by the National Tax Service.

According to different reports, actor Kwon Sang Woo is suspected of attempting to commit tax evasion by purchasing five luxury cars, including the Maybach, Ferrari, and Rolls Royce brands, using the name of the company he founded. Kwon Sang Woo was also reportedly trying to avoid taxes by buying buildings worth 28 billion won through his company, instead of using his own name in 2018.

On March 1, 2023, Su Company announced that actor Kwon Sang Woo had paid a tax penalty of 1 billion won. They also denied the existence of tax evasion efforts by the actor. "The tax authorities requested an explanation of the recognition period for profit and loss, and because there was a discrepancy for part of the recognition period, we submitted amended returns and voluntarily paid the penalty," said Su Company.

They continued, "There was no negligence or tax evasion. We only made amendments because the payment and refund were issued at the same time." In response to this, fans and the public also gave various opinions. " What's going on? This is the fourth news this week about South Korean celebrities being dragged into tax evasion cases ," said one netizen.

" I really don't understand rich people. There are lots of ordinary people who still pay taxes even though they don't earn much, but celebrities try to avoid paying taxes ," commented one netizen. " It seems that South Korea is diligently digging into the tax accounts of celebrities.

Why don't they also dig up the tax accounts of conglomerates and political officials ," added another netizen. " Cases of tax evasion have been on the rise lately ," said another netizen. Apart from actor Kwon Sang Woo, previously actress Kim Tae Hee was also reported for the same case, which was suspected of committing tax evasion.
