The girl group made by SM Entertainment, aespa, has raised its voice in response to the controversy between ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE which also dragged down their group's name. The four AESPA members admitted that they were aware of the news from the HYBE leader, Bang Si-hyuk, which targeted AESPA.
In a press conference ahead of the comeback on Monday May 27, 2024, Karina as the leader of aespa admitted that she did not take the issue seriously. He and the other members are just trying to focus on preparing for aespa's latest comeback.
"We are aware of the issue (Bang Si-hyuk's statement) and people around us have told us about it too," said Karina, reported by the Korea Herald. "But because we are about to release our first full album, we really only focus on that album," continued Karina.
Continuing its statement, aespa also admitted that it still maintains good relations with the members of NewJeans. In fact, they revealed the closeness of the two groups when promoting music at the same event. Recently, aespa promoted the latest single entitled Supernova which was released on May 13, 2024.
Meanwhile, NewJeans also made a comeback with the song How Sweet on May 24, 2024. Close comeback schedules meant that the two groups met each other at music events. "NewJeans and we are friends. Recently we even met them in the waiting room of a music event. We gave each other heart signs," said Karina.
On the other hand, aespa's latest comeback will be the first full album entitled Armageddon which contains the group's musical identity from Karina, Giselle, NingNing, and Winter. Armageddon consists of 10 songs with the title track Supernova which features retro and hip-hop songs.
"It has strong beats and hooks which are often referred to as SM's music style. We want to show the true color of aespa's music in this new album, which is our skill and defines us," said Winter. Meanwhile, the controversy between HYBE and the CEO of ADOR which dragged aespa's name occurred last April.
At that time, the public was shocked by the contents of the conversation between Min Hee-jin and Bang Si-hyuk who discussed aespa's popularity. Bang Si-hyuk seemed to ask Min Hee-jin whether he could work to surpass Aespa's success or not.
