The character Plankton in the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants has been confirmed to be making its own film next year. The story of this villain character will be made into a film entitled Plankton: The Movie. Reporting from Deadline on Tuesday June 11, 2024, the animated film will tell the story of Plankton's life falling apart when his plan to rule the world is thwarted.
Plankton has been managing the Chum Bucket restaurant business which often competes with the Krusty Krab restaurant. Plankton is also accompanied by Karen, a waterproof computer who acts as his partner and wife. The film Plankton: The Movie will be directed by director Dave Needham with a script and story written by Mr. Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Plankton's voice will be done by Mr. Lawrence, then Jill Talley as Karen, and Tom Kenny as Spongebob SquarePants. Then, there are also Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Clancy Brown, and Rodger Bumpass. The Plankton film was reportedly planned four years ago and started production two years ago.
Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper sat down to write the music with music supervisors Karyn Rachtman and Otis Ratchman. The original song was written by Bret McKenzie, Linda Perry, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Bob Mothersbaugh. Plankton: The Movie is the first film for the character whose full name is Sheldon J. Plankton.
Throughout its broadcast, there are a number of films released in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe. However, everything focuses more on the relationship between the two main friends, namely SpongeBob and Patrick Star, as in the films The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), Sponge Out of Water (2015), and Sponge on the Run (2021).
Apart from the character Plankton which will be made into a standalone film, Netflix is known to be preparing to broadcast the film Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which is the first film specifically for Sandy, the squirrel who lives under the sea.
The film tells the story of Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob SquarePants who travel to Texas to save Bikini Bottoms and all the residents who were suddenly brought to land. The film Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is planned to be released on August 2 2024. Meanwhile, the film Plankton: The Movie is scheduled to appear in 2025 on Netflix.
