SEVENTEEN is back to making new history. Recently, the boy group made by Pledis Entertainment has been appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth, marking the first time a K-pop artist has received such an award from UNESCO.
Quoting from Allkpop on Tuesday June 11, 2024, Pledis Entertainment linked this recognition to SEVENTEEN's commitment to infusing their musical journey with the involvement of the global youth generation since their debut in 2015.
UNESCO appoints individuals with global excellence in various fields as Goodwill Ambassadors to increase world interest and participation in its ideals and activities. In particular, SEVENTEEN and UNESCO have collaborated on the #GoingTogether campaign which has had a big impact and advocates for the importance of education.
Previously, SEVENTEEN made a donation to celebrate their 9th debut anniversary to UNESCO which was designated as a global educational environmental fund. In addition, SEVENTEEN also participated in the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum held at UNESCO headquarters in November last year, where they interacted with youth representatives from more than 170 countries.
During the event, the members delivered a special session conveying the message that solidarity among youth and education can change the future of youth and the planet. SEVENTEEN is scheduled to attend the Youth Ambassadors appointment ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, on June 26, 2024.
On this occasion, the members will discuss with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay and share their specific plans and sentiments through acceptance speeches. "Seventeen and UNESCO share the same commitment to empowering young people to lead change and overcome the challenges of our time.
Through their music and positive energy, Seventeen has inspired and supported young people around the world," said Audrey Azoulay. He added, "After several successful collaborations, I am pleased to welcome the members of Seventeen as part of the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors on June 26."
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN recently released the best album '17 IS RIGHT HERE' which succeeded in making achievements. The album managed to reach 149th position on the Billboard 200' for four consecutive weeks according to the latest chart released by Billboard on June 4, 2024.
