The Despicable Me 4 film officially aired simultaneously in United States cinemas since Wednesday July 3, 2024. The animated film is even predicted to rake in a box office debut because it aired during the US Independence Day holiday on July 4th, 2024.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday July 3, 2024, the latest film from the Despicable Me franchise is estimated to have earned US$28 million on the first day of release. The profit could even increase to US$120 million throughout the five-day holiday until July 8, 2024.

If this possibility is true, then Despicable Me 4's income will beat the third film released in 2017 with a profit of US$99 million. Even so, the predicted profit for Despicable Me 4 is said to be slightly lower than the  Minions : The Rise of Gru film which was released in 2022.

The Minions spin-off sequel film reportedly earned US$123 million during the long weekend opening of July 1-4, 2022. Despicable Me 4 was released seven years after the third film aired and two years after the film Minions: The Rise of Gru as a sequel to the spin-off Minions (2015) was released in 2022.

In this latest film, Despicable Me 4 tells the story of Gru's daily life with his small family, namely Lucy, his wife, and his four children named Margo, Edith, Agnes, and Gru Jr. who is still a baby. However, their lives are disturbed by the presence of an old enemy named Maxime Le Mal who escaped from prison.

The half-cockroach villain delivers a message to Gru that he will soon avenge his old revenge. The film is again directed by director Chris Renaud who has previously produced the saga since the first film in 2010. However, Renaud is also said to play a role for a character that is still being kept secret.

Meanwhile, the screenwriter's chair is occupied by a new writer for the saga, Mike White, who previously wrote for hit films such as Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) and Migration (2023). Not alone, Mike White also collaborated with the legendary scriptwriter from the Despicable Me saga, Ken Daurio, who has been with the team since the first Minions film.
