2PM's Taecyeon recently revealed why he was interested in starring in the BL (Boys Love) series 'Soul Mate'. In 'Soul Mate', Taecyeon will play the role of a Korean boxer named Hwang Yo Han, while Hayato Isomura will play the character Ryu Narutaki.

The Japanese series is written and directed by Hashizume Shunki of 'Kanojo to Kareshi no Akarui Mirai', and will tell the story of two individuals bound by a heartbreaking past. In 'Soul Mate', viewers will witness a 10-year love story between two young men as they travel across major cities such as Seoul, Berlin, and Tokyo while healing each other's wounds.

When Netflix announced that Taecyeon would be starring in a series alongside Japanese actor Hayato Isomura, fans were surprised that Taecyeon chose to star in the BL genre. Taecyeon shared his honest thoughts and the reasons why he was interested in starring in 'Soul Mate'.

According to him, he wanted to work on a different project and find a different side of himself as an actor. "I'm really happy to be appearing in 'Soul Mate' because there are so many types of characters and genres that I haven't tried yet. I want to gradually expand my spectrum and find new sides of myself," Taecyeon said as quoted by KdramaStars.

In addition, Taecyeon was also attracted to the overall premise of the drama, and said that the character of Yo Han really intrigued him. He mentioned that while reading the script, he could feel Yo Han's pain and inner struggle, which was also a turning point for accepting the project.

Like his preparations for previous dramas, Taecyeon tried to focus on visuals, especially since his character is a boxer. "To prepare for it, I lost weight and underwent boxing training, and I continued to train diligently during filming to portray Yo Han as best as I could," he said.

On the other hand, his co-star, Hayato Isomura, praised Taecyeon and described him as someone who is inspiring to work with. Scheduled to air exclusively on Netflix, the production team has yet to announce a definite release date for the 'Soul Mate' series, although there is a possibility that the series will be released in 2025.
