Inside Out 2 has been officially selected as the highest-grossing animated film of all time after successfully earning US$1.46 billion from the global box office during its six-week run. This achievement also succeeded in making Inside Out 2 overtake the achievement of Frozen II (2019) which was previously the highest-grossing animated film with revenues of US$1.45 billion.
As reported by Variety on Wednesday July 24, 2024, in terms of global ticket sales, the film Inside Out 2 successfully overtook Barbie (US$1.44 billion) as the 13th highest-grossing film of all time. Among all these achievements, the sequel to the film Inside Out also became the only film to earn US$1 billion in just 19 days throughout 2024.
Inside Out 2 is now officially the top-grossing film of 2024 and joins the billion-dollar club. This achievement was supported by several factors, one of which was the success of the first film which grossed US$858 million when it was released in 2015 and was then successfully overtaken by its sequel in just one week.
Another factor is the four-quadrant appeal or films that attract the four main demographic quadrants of the audience, such as being aimed at both women and men as well as being films for all ages, including those over and under 25 years old. In terms of the story, the plot raised in Inside Out 2 also managed to attract film critics and audiences, resulting in a positive impression that indirectly helped promote the film and generate profits for ticket sales.
