Sports-themed anime seems to be in the spotlight in the entertainment industry, for example the soccer manga Blue Lock  which became the best-selling series in 2023. Its success was followed by adaptations in the form of the first film and anime series.

However, there is a manga series by Kouji Miura titled Blue Box that comes with a different approach. This manga brings up the story of two sports worlds, basketball and badminton, through its two main protagonists. The Blue Box anime series is set to air on Netflix this year and is expected to be a huge hit on the streaming platform.

The series is based on a manga that first hit Shonen Jump in 2021 and now has over 150 chapters. The concept carried by this anime is not about creating a new sport from a combination of badminton and basketball elements, but rather about two characters who are struggling to build a career in each of these sports.

Despite playing different sports, the two characters train together and grow closer. The anime also adds a romantic element to their story, making it more interesting and emotional. The series is produced by Yuichiro Yano with Telecom Animation Film.

The studio is well-known to anime fans for its releases including Baki, Tower of God, Lupin The Third Part IV, and Shenmue The Animation. They are also working on Rick And Morty: The Anime which will be released this year.

In Blue Box, we meet Taiki Inomata, a high school student from Eimei who is active in his school's top badminton team. Taiki secretly has feelings for Chinatsu Kano, a senior basketball player who often trains with him in the gym every morning. One day, their relationship goes through a dramatic change in spring.

From here begins a storyline that combines themes of love, sports, and youth in an engaging and memorable narrative. Curious about the full story? Netflix has not yet revealed the exact airing date, but it has been confirmed that the Blue Box anime will air this year.
