Twice's Jihyo revealed that she trained at SM Entertainment before joining her current agency, JYP Entertainment. The fact that successfully surprised fans was revealed directly by Jihyo through the content "TWICE JIHYO was ever in SM Entertainment???" on the YouTube channel Hyo's Level Up.
Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon released a content with Jihyo as her guest star. Jihyo said that she had actually met Hyoyeon when she was little. “Actually, I met you (Hyoyeon) when I was a baby,” said Jihyo. Jihyo admitted that she had joined SM Entertainment for a year, before finally moving to continue her training for 10 years at JYP Entertainment.
Previously, Jihyo was known to have joined JYP Entertainment in 2005, when she was 8 years old, which means Jihyo started training at SM Entertainment when she was 7 years old. According to fans, if Jihyo had stayed at SM Entertainment, there is a possibility that she would have been in the same batch as the members of girl group f(x) and trained with Red Velvet's Irene and Seulgi.
Even though she was only a trainee at SM Entertainment for a year, Jihyo has already interacted with other Girls' Generation members. “You were there at the time, and so were some members of Girls' Generation. They said I was cute and stuff,” Jihyo said.
Jihyo recalled, “I think it was Yoona sunbaenim. I was so young that I don’t really remember (that Yoona, once compared her to a CD because of Jihyo’s young face at the time).” Although later, Hyoyeon denied that what Jihyo said was possibly Sooyoung, not Yoona.
Not only did she know the fact that Jihyo was once an SM Entertainment trainee, Jihyo also shared how she ended up joining JYP Entertainment. Jihyo said that she initially auditioned for a child star selection through a site called 'Junior Naver'. While there, it turned out that there was a JYP Entertainment representative who finally chose her.
When Hyoyeon asked the reason why Jihyo finally decided to move, Jihyo explained that she moved because the person who brought her to SM Entertainment moved to JYP Entertainment. Hyoyeon who knew the fact said, “If I knew, I would have held you back. Telling you not to go, to stay together,” which then ended with laughter from both of them.
