Reported by AFP, on Monday December 30, 2024, Jeju Air departing from Thailand to South Korea carried a total of 181 people. Consisting of 175 passengers and 6 cabin crew. The Jeju Air plane crash was confirmed after emergency services received a call at Muan International Airport located in South Jeolla Province.

This happened at around 09.00 local time. The plane crashed when it was about to land after flying from Bangkok, Thailand. Several observers and aviation reports have so far suspected that Jeju Air crashed due to a bird strike and bad weather.

The South Korean fire department stated that the two causes triggered engine failure. However, a detailed explanation of the cause will be announced after the joint investigation is complete. Authorities have also managed to find the plane's two black boxes and are currently being examined.

The control tower reportedly gave the pilot a bird collision warning. The warning prompted the plane to try to land again on the runway. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, the plane landed without landing gear. The plane then lost control and went off the runway, then hit a fence, and was destroyed, triggering a puff of fire.

The Jeju Air incident is the worst plane crash in South Korean aviation history so far. The current condition of the Ginseng Country which is currently hit by a leadership crisis has declared a day of mourning for the next seven days. Reportedly, the death toll reached 179 people, and only 2 flight attendants survived.
