Lee Jung Jae had a short interview session with Netflix's YouTube channel K-Content on December 28, 2024. The actor, born in 1972, discussed his acting in "Squid Game 2". He specifically highlighted his acting with Gong Yoo.
In "Squid Game 2", Seong Gi Hun (Jung Jae) confronts the Squid Game Recruiter (Gong Yoo) again. The two play a game of Russian Roulette with their lives at stake. In the end, the Recruiter dies from being shot by his own gun. In his interview, Jung Jae revealed the process of filming the scene.
"I think this scene has a very cinematic feel. There are many things to consider when filming a scene like this," said the actor. Jung Jae admitted that the filming process for the scene was very difficult. "This scene was especially difficult because it was the first scene of the series.
Although we didn't want it to seem too dramatic from the first scene, it had to create intrigue and tension at the same time. It was important to calibrate my emotions and the intensity of my acting," he added. Jung Jae then revealed the hidden details of this deadly scene.
"You can see the design that is designed with clouds on the window glass. And the red light that shines on Gong Yoo's face and mine makes our eyes sparkle," he revealed. According to Jung Jae, the detail shows how much thought and effort the "Squid Game 2" production team put into this scene.
"Your chance of dying is now 50 percent. The odds are pretty high," he said. Jung Jae could even guess that Gong Yoo's fans would be very happy to see their idol's acting. "If you're a fan of Gong Yoo, I'm sure you'll be happy to see his new side in this scene," said the actor.
Jung Jae shared that his character and Gong Yoo both follow the rules, even if it means risking their lives. "Even in a game between just the two of them, they follow the rules strictly. Breaking the rules means you lose. He thinks he's stronger than them. And it conveys a strong message that he can beat them for that reason," Jung Jae continued.
Jung Jae admitted that he often praised Gong Yoo's acting. "I often told Gong Yoo that he acted really well and I meant it. He was not only charismatic, but also naughty in this scene. He even looked scary and embodied that in his acting," said Jung Jae.
