Super Junior's Sungmin has officially announced his separation from SM Entertainment after 20 years of working together. Quoting from Allkpop on Saturday April 19, 2025, the exclusive contract between Sungmin and the SM Entertainment agency will officially end at the end of April this year.

The idol decided not to extend his exclusive contract. Sungmin made the decision because he wanted to focus more on performing as a Trot singer. After a long time of not being active in Super Junior group activities. To realize his dream of being a trot singer, Sungmin plans to join the Total Set agency, which focuses on trot music.

Sungmin is also reportedly finalizing his contract signing with Total Set. The idol also expressed his desire to join an entertainment agency that truly focuses on the trot music genre, making it easier for him to pursue his career further in the genre.

Meanwhile, Sungmin previously appeared on a competition program 'Mister Trot 2' in 2022. On that occasion, the idol expressed his desire to switch professions from a K-Pop idol to a trot singer. Sungmin then officially debuted as a trot singer through the release of his first single titled 'Lovesick' in 2023.

He also made a comeback through his second single titled 'Yo.Yo.Yo' in August 2024. Establishing his name as one of the new singers in the world of trot songs. Through the song 'Yo.Yo.Yo' Seungmin displays a different charm from his previous image as a K-Pop idol.

Through energetic and cheerful music, the song 'Yo.Yo.Yo' does not only sound like an entertaining song. However, it is proof of the totality of Sungmin who has spread his wings and pursued a new field of music. With its iconic and fresh lyrics, the song 'Yo.Yo.Yo' sounds like a song that started a change in Sungmin's music career.

Especially in the chorus of the song which exclaims, " It used to be this, then it became that, it became this, and now it's this/ Tada, suddenly changed!/ Hey, look at me, what do you think?/ Are you interested? /" The lyrics above sound like a re-introduction of himself to a new audience and fans of the new music genre that he is pursuing.

On the other hand, Sungmin, who has not been active as a member of Super Junior for approximately 9 years, has made fans wonder whether the idol's departure from SM Entertainment is also a sign of his official departure as a member of Super Junior.

Despite this, a number of fans continue to give their support to Sungmin who will be pursuing a new career and new challenges after he officially parted ways with the agency that made his name big. His decision to change professions as a trot singer also came in a not short time. However, after going through long considerations.

Meanwhile, the Total Set agency that will be Sungmin's new agency is home to a number of famous trot musicians. Starting from Jin Sung, Han Hye-jin, Hong Ja, Park Gun, Ahn Sung-hoon, Jung Da-kyung, Oh Yoo-jin, and Lee Soo-yeon.
