Korean celebrity chef Baek Jong Won has decided to end all television appearances. He announced the decision after being embroiled in a series of controversies that damaged his reputation and that of his food business, The Born Korea, for allegedly violating food safety regulations.
"From now on, I will devote all my energy and passion completely to the growth of The Born Korea as an entrepreneur, not as a TV personality," Baek Jong Won said in a video on his YouTube channel, Tuesday May 6, 2025. The apology is the third time Baek Jong Won has issued this year.
Previously, he had apologized to the public, both in written statements and directly at a shareholders' meeting in March 2025. "I have apologized in writing and during shareholder meetings, but today I want to express my regrets directly, in person," he said. "All these problems come from me," he continued.
He expressed special attention to franchise owners. "What hurts me most is the desperate situation that many of our franchise owners are facing," he said. "After launching emergency support measures, I have visited stores to hear directly from our partners.
I am now determined not to leave a single franchise owner behind," he continued. Baek Jong Won has appeared on many Korean television shows, such as Street Food Fighter, Korean Pork Belly Rhapsody, and even guest-starred on BTS's popular variety show, Run BTS.
