"The Divorce Insurance" was once a highly anticipated tvN project. However, the drama starring Lee Kwang Soo and Lee Dong-wook is now struggling with very low ratings. "The Divorce Insurance" premiered on March 31, 2025 to a fairly good nationwide rating of 3.2 percent.
However, the drama continued to experience a steady decline and hit a new low of 1.0 percent on episode 10. This is one of the lowest ratings for a Monday-Tuesday drama on tvN in the past five years, a sad record.
Because the ratings were so low, Korean journalists began to dissect the reasons why the drama, which also stars Lee Da Hee, did not attract much attention. "The Divorce Insurance" is a romantic office comedy about a fictional task force that treats divorce as a social disaster and tries to solve it through insurance products.
The premise was initially considered unique and refreshing. However, reality proved harsh, as the audience found it difficult to understand the concept, calling it irrelevant and lacking empathy. One of the biggest issues was the misaligned tone.
The idea of treating something as serious as divorce as a unique business concept was considered insensitive and unrealistic. What was meant to be a humorous perspective on a real social issue fell flat for viewers, criticizing the narrative as shallow and insensitive.
The drama had all the right ingredients on paper, thanks to its cast. But strong acting couldn’t save the drama from genre confusion and lack of emotional depth. Many have complained that "The Divorce Insurance" can't decide whether it wants to be an office drama or a romantic comedy.
As the episodes go on, the conflict structure becomes repetitive, the story drags, and the emotional arc is unclear, making it difficult for viewers to stay engaged. On the other hand, reality shows and variety programs airing in the same time slot, with their fast-paced editing and stimulating content, distract viewers from this slow-paced drama.
Even the long-awaited romantic development in episode 10 with the two main couples sharing their first kiss failed to draw more viewers. With only two episodes left, it’s unlikely that “The Divorce Insurance” can turn its fortunes around.
The drama now risks ending with the tag of tvN’s worst-rated weekday drama in years. Whether the drama delivers a satisfying ending or fades away quietly, the hard truth remains: very few viewers are still watching with any real care.
