Netflix officially released the first teaser for Squid Game 3 on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The short video marks the beginning of the final chapter of the Korean thriller series that has garnered global praise since its debut in 202. Squid Game 3 is scheduled to premiere on June 27, 2025.
The released trailer hints at the development of increasingly complex conflicts, the return of main characters, and the emergence of various new symbols and puzzles that invite curiosity. The third season will once again highlight the journey of Seong Gi-hun, or Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae.
After the failure of the rebellion he carried out at the end of the previous season, Gi-hun has now re-entered the game arena with intentions that have not been fully revealed. In one of the early scenes of the teaser, Gi-hun is seen in a coffin before finally regaining consciousness.
He is then seen tied to an iron fence, implying that his character will undergo a significant role change. The teaser also introduces an updated game system. The participants are now faced with dividing groups based on the color of the ball, red and cobalt that they get from the giant dispenser.
Reported by Sports Keeda, Wednesday May 7, 2025, the color is believed to separate the players into two groups that compete with each other or may destroy each other. Geum-ja (Kang Ae-sim) and her son, Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun), seemed to react emotionally to the contrasting lottery results, emphasizing the personal conflicts that will occur between the contestants.
One of the most shocking moments in the teaser is the appearance of Player 222, Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), who sobs accompanied by the sound of a baby crying. This scene sparked much speculation among fans, whether a contestant gave birth in the middle of the game, or was it just psychological manipulation by the organizer.
This scene immediately became a hot topic of discussion on social media, with various theories emerging about the symbolic meaning behind the baby's cry and Gi-hun's condition, which appears very weak. The teaser also shows the imbalance of power between players who choose to stay (the O button) and those who want to retreat (the X button).
Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon), a figure involved in the rebellion in the previous season, is still present without any clear consequences. Several old characters reappear, including Front Man, investigator Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), and No-eul (Park Gyu-young) who is seen infiltrating a secret area.
Meanwhile, Gi-hun wears a dark red jacket, different from his iconic green uniform, indicating a shift in roles or alliances that have not been revealed. Netflix also released a poster featuring an image of Gi-hun standing among coffins tied with pink ribbons.
His grim expression depicts the pain and anger he harbors after losing his best friend Jung Bae (Lee Seo-hwan) and fellow contestants after their failed rebellion attempt. The third season of Squid Game, which will air on June 27, 2025, will once again be directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the original creator of the series.
In addition to being the conclusion of the trilogy, this season promises to be the most emotional and brutal, with more intense trials and more complex inner conflicts. Squid Game centers on a mysterious survival game that risks a grand prize of 45.6 billion won.
