Sad news has come from the South Korean entertainment world. Veteran actor Song Young Kyu reportedly passed away on Monday August 4, 2025. The cause of death is still under investigation by authorities.
According to an MBN report cited by Chosun Biz, Song was found dead around 8 a.m. in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. He was found unconscious in his vehicle by a friend, who immediately reported the incident to the police.
The Yongin East Police Station confirmed his death and is currently investigating the case. Some time ago, Song was caught in a case of alleged drunk driving on June 19, 2025.
He was suspected of driving a car 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu, Yongin, at around 11 pm. As a result of the incident, she withdrew from the play Shakespeare in Love.
The production team for Try and The Defects also confirmed they were looking for ways to minimize Song's scenes. The news of her passing shocked and mourned many of her fellow artists.
Song, born in 1970, launched her career in the children's musical Merutal Dosa in 1994. He is known for his iconic supporting roles, including Chief Choi in the box office hit Extreme Job.
Song has also appeared in popular dramas such as Suriname, Casino, and Love Scout. He is currently appearing on screen in SBS's Try and ENA's The Defects.
